Funding Opportunity in the healthcare and medical sectors (1.2 million Euros):
Consortia (e.g. industrial companies in the areas of telesurveillance / telemedicine / cooperative platforms, robot manufacturers, research institutes etc.) have the opportunity to apply for a total funding of 1.2 million Euros. The mission is to develop a tailor-made solution to assist medical doctors in performing geriatric tests. The public authority interested in this technological first step will contribute the end-user perspective during the entire development process. Thus it is made sure that the technology (a small-scale test series at the end of the project’s runtime) fulfills the needs of geriatric hospitals - the gate will be open to easily address additional customers.
Currently, CGA is performed by social and clinical professionals involved in the care of elderly people: physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, medical doctors, etc. Utilizing robotic technology to conduct geriatric tests will reduce the time medical professionals have to spend with purely mechanistic tasks (like documentation). Thus they will gain time to developed individualized care plans for their patients. The possibility to assess and record the (cognitive and physical) status of a patient increases transparency and objectivity of the assessment. The interim results of the technology development will be evaluated in the geriatric hospital itself under natural circumstances.
Public bodies often have specific requirements for the products they use. The CGA Call – funded by the European Commission under FP7 rules - offers to both – the technology developers and the public authorities - the chance to closely interact and interface with each other during the conception and development of the solution. This is to make sure that the product meets the requirements of the target group, technically and price-wise.
